Here’s what to know about what to do with your car when you move to another state.

Vehicle Moving Checklist

Here’s a list of tasks you’ll need to complete in the weeks leading up to your move to a new state:

  • Let us know about your move so we can transfer your Honda financing package to your new address.
  • Alert your auto insurance company to your move; if they don’t provide coverage where you’re going, you may need to change carriers.
  • Research vehicle registration requirements in your new state.
  • Schedule a time to get your new driver’s license.

Most states allow a two or three-month grace period between when you move and when you’ll have to update your license and car registration, so you’ll likely have a little time to check those items off your to-do list.

Maintaining Your Vehicle in Your New State

Before you pack up and move, come by our dealership for a complimentary multipoint inspection. Our technicians will ensure your vehicle is ready for the long drive, the heavy cargo you’re bringing, and your emissions won’t pose a problem. We’ll also help you outline your ideal preventative maintenance schedule so you’ll know when you’re due for an oil change, tire rotation, and other routine service once you get to your new home.
